Delhi High Court Embarks on Live-Streaming of Chief Justice’s Court Proceedings from October 11

In a significant leap towards transparency and accessibility, the Delhi High Court has announced the initiation of live-streaming for court proceedings, set to commence from October 11, Wednesday. The initial phase of this transformative initiative will be limited to proceedings in the Chief Justice’s court.

Key Highlights:

  • Limited Rollout: The live-streaming will initially be implemented in the Chief Justice’s court, with a case-by-case basis approach, aligning with the specific directives of the Court.
  • Access through Official Website: The live-streaming link will be accessible on the home page of the official website of the Delhi High Court (https://delhihighcourt.nic.in) under the title – LIVE STREAMING.
  • Commencement Details: The inaugural live-streaming session is scheduled for 11 October 2023, starting at 10:30 am in Court No. 1, which includes Hon’ble Mr Justice Satish Chandra Sharma, the Chief Justice, and Hon’ble Mr Justice Sanjeev Narula, specifically for an identified matter.
  • Future Expansion: The Court has indicated that the live-streaming of proceedings before Court No 39 will be introduced soon, broadening the scope of this transparency initiative.

Statement by the High Court:

“In pursuit of greater access to justice, the High Court of Delhi is going to start the live streaming of court proceedings on 11 October, 2023…in an identified matter.”

The Court emphasizes that the contents under ‘LIVE STREAMING’ are for informational purposes only, and the live streaming and archival data should not be deemed the official record of court proceedings.

Guidelines for Usage:

  • Authorized Recording: The High Court strictly prohibits any person or entity, including print and electronic media and social media platforms, from recording, sharing, or disseminating live-streamed proceedings or archival data without authorization.
  • Paperless E-Courts: It is noteworthy that all courts of the High Court of Delhi are operating as paperless e-courts, incorporating video conference/hybrid hearing facilities. All case-related documents, replies, rejoinders, etc., are e-filed exclusively through the Online c-Filing System.

The move towards live-streaming is a commendable step by the Delhi High Court to enhance transparency and provide the public with direct access to court proceedings, promoting a more open and accountable judicial process.
